Chairman’s Update: The Importance of Advocacy
In his July update, 2026 NAHB Chairman Bill Owens spotlights the strength of NAHB’s advocacy efforts.
During NAHB’s Spring Leadership Meeting, more than 1,100 members and HBA staff advocated on Capitol Hill for key housing priorities during the Legislative Conference. The meeting also included remarks from cabinet-level officials and town hall sessions with senior administration officials. NAHB’s advocacy team was a key driver of these events.
“I just wanted to give a huge shout-out to the 40-plus advocacy team members,” Owens stated. “They represent all aspects of the federal, state and local efforts on your behalf. These are an incredibly experienced group of lobbyists and subject-matter experts, well respected on Capitol Hill.”
One of the primary victories from the Legislative Conference was the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, landmark housing legislation that became law on July 10.
“A huge team effort,” Owens applauded. “The Federal Government Affairs team and you — many engaged members — were directly responsible for that success.”
