With the installation of windows, plumbing and roofing all well underway, The New American Home 2024 is off to an impressive start.

“I currently feel the build is going really well,” said Mark Schlachter, superintendent for Sun West Custom Homes. “When [NAHB representatives] came out here, they said we have progressed faster than any [New American Home] build they’ve had in 25 years. So I’m happy at this point.”

The primary focus of the 2024 show home is on performance and energy efficiency. Schlachter says the home is filled with innovative products that are “going above and beyond” to help the property reach the highest levels of air quality and efficiency ratings.

The 7,722-square-foot-home will feature five bedrooms, five-and-a-half bathrooms, a two-car garage, outdoor kitchen area, view of the Las Vegas Skyline and more. But even for a home of this size, it is still expected to achieve National Green Building Standard Emerald certification in addition to certifications from ENERGY STAR, Indoor airPLUS, and DOE’s Zero Energy Ready Home Program.

Schlachter said the team has had to find ways to overcome various challenges, including some mechanical issues early on. But the home is still on track for an October completion — four months before its official debut at the 2024 International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas, Feb. 27-29.
